Vaser liposuction is a minimally invasive method of removing fat from the body and contouring the figure to give a smoother shape. Unlike traditional forms of liposuction, this procedure uses high frequency ultrasound waves to break down the fat cells and release their contents, which can then be removed using suction. The Vaser liposuction procedure is suitable for both men and women.
Vaser liposuction specifically targets fat cells, which means that there is a much lower risk of the surrounding tissue being damaged than with traditional liposuction. The blood vessels, tendons and other types of tissue are all left completely undisturbed by the ultrasound waves. It is also less invasive because only a small incision is needed to insert the ultrasound probe, and then the fat (which is now in a liquid form) can be removed by gentle suction through the same incision. The fact that the fat is liquidised before removal means that the side effects are likely to be considerably reduced.
Vaser liposuction can be carried out under a local anaesthetic, and has a much shorter recovery time as a result of this. You should speak to your doctor about whether this is the most appropriate form of liposuction for you. The most common areas that are treated using Vaser liposuction include the thighs, abdomen, buttocks and chin, although it is suitable for almost any region of the body. Men may be particularly interested in the removal of excess breast tissue, a condition called gynaecomastia, which is becoming increasingly common. Side effects of Vaser liposuction include bruising and bleeding, but these will resolve quickly.
